I just watched this interview on Refinery29 and I’m under a spell. Just click play. Last time I feel like this was when I discovered Ibeyi.

Chance The Rapper’s Coloring Book

Chance The Rapper won my heart last year at Wakarusa, and I’ve been following him since then. So it was a huge disappointment when he released his most recent album, Coloring Book, and I didn’t have access to it. The album was released two weeks ago, and it was exclusively streaming on Apple Music.

Well, the wait is over! Head over to SoundCloud and listen. I’m already on the third listen and it’s so great. Totally lives up to the hype.

LouFest year 4 for us!

We’re excited about this year’s LouFest!┬áThe lineup was released this morning and none of our guesses for headliners were correct (we thought The Lumineers or Mumford and Sons might make an appearance in the STL fest). But we’re still happy with the lineup. I’m super excited to see Lauryn Hill and @docmurda is a St. Lucia lova, so he’s pumped about them. There is jazz, hip hop, R&B, and blues. I am down!

This is going to be our 4th year and I promise I will take better photos and post them in a timely fashion, unlike my slacking of previous years.

Happy Electro Dose of Discovery

My Spotify discovery list for this week is full of great Happy Electro sounds. Unlike last week, when it completely missed the mark. This week, though… This week was good. Full of remixes and happy tempos.
Here’s a list of the songs I like the best.

“Stay Young, Get Stoned” – White Sea

“Be Okay” (Matt DiMona Remix) – Oh Honey

“Never Find” – Fly Rebel Society

“With You” (Jai Wolf Remix) – Dirty South

“Kisser” (RII Remix) – Step Rockets

Bonus:
“Song3” by Abhi The Nomad feat. Foster

I think this week solidified the fact that I can like any song as long it’s remixed the right way. There were some songs in the list that I wouldn’t really like, because they are kinda lame, but the remixes that showed up on my discovery list were just right for me.

Yeah, I also couldn’t narrow it down to just three songs. But out of 30, I think this is a good selection.

Highlights from my weekly dose of newness

The Sandy Beats authorship has the tradition of sharing Spotify Weekly Discovery lists. And I’ve been having really good lists the last few months. So much that I have an ongoing list where I add my favorites. I have titled that list “The Most Perfect Discovery List.” It started out a week when I loved pretty much all the tracks I was recommended.

I want to share a few of my favorites this week. I hope I can find YouTube videos for all of them.

First off, “Put A Light On” by The Generationals. This track was released in March 2013. Way to make me feel out of the loop, Spotify!

Then we have “Show Your Colors” by Geneviene, released in March 2015. A little better, but maybe not considering I said “oh yeah, from this year!”… clearly I need to come into 2016 already.
My favorite part of this video is that the colors start to show when they get to Salvation Mountain (it’s in my bucket list to go there. SOMEONE TAKE ME, PLEASE)

And here’s “Valentina” by The Hunts. SO CATCHY. Also released last Springs.

And the smoothness of Bhi Bhiman‘s “Moving To Brussels.” Released May 2015.

I wanted to keep it at 3 highlights, but I couldn’t. So there you go. That was this week. I know, awesomeness. There were so many other great ones, man. I would like to mention (because I know of someone who will appreciate this a lot) that I REALLY enjoyed St. Lucia‘s “Dancing On Glass.” Another great song was “Iddle Hands” by EXGF.
