A blog about music

We’re two friends who recommend new music to one another a lot. So we decided to start sharing through this blog, Sandy Beats. We met at the University of Arkansas, a good 9 or 10 years ago (whaaaaat?), and we’ve been friends ever since.

I, @begt, still live in Arkansas, while @DocMurda moved to Las Vegas (but I’ll let him tell you more about himself). In the last 9 or 10 years we’ve shared a lot of awesome music with each other. I think it was October 2010 when we were in his kitchen in LV and he recommended this awesome local group to me, Imagine Dragons. He gave me one of their EPs and I took it home, only to get my senses blown away when I listened to it a few days later. At that time, I was writing for a Houston-based live music blog. Through that blog, I got the opportunity to go to a lot of concerts and get in the photo pit (I took all the photos in the collage above). It was an amazing experience. That’s why when that blog kind of died, I was left with this love for sharing music and no outlet for it.

Why Sandy Beats? Sand has been part of the journey. @DocMurda is in the middle of the desert, and I’m from El Salvador, the tiniest country in Central America, where I could go get my toes on the Pacific Ocean every other weekend.

I grew up listening to Rock, Pop and Reggae (all en Español), while still getting a healthy serving of international music super stars like Michael Jackson and Madonna. The Beatles ruled my dad’s LP player and my brother introduced me to other classics. I loved Shakira when she was the Alanis Morissette of Latin America. And I went through the obligatory Menudo craze phase that came with being a girl in Central America in the 1990′s. These days, I listen to all kinds of music. From folk to rock to pop to a little bit of electronica, you name it. Discovering music is the best. Get excited, this will be awesome!
